The phrase on everyone’s lips this Spring/Summer is ‘pop-up picnic’! The Gold Coast has so much to offer in the outdoors, and people are certainly taking advantage of our beautiful coastline by setting up
stunning, insta-worthy picnics. Thanks to The Marine Village’s diverse range of retailers, we have plenty of tips on setting up the ultimate picnic- read on to get the inside scoop!
How to Set Up the Ultimate Sunset Picnic
14 October 2021
Start with the essentials
Every picnic needs two staples- good food and great wine. While this can be stressful to organise, it need not be with Sanctuary Cove IGA and Corker Cellars at your disposal. IGA has all your picnic basics- cutlery, serviettes, plates and cups… but their gourmet cheese and sandwich platters will really set you apart and make your picnic that extra bit special! (Tip: Destino Home has beautiful ceramic platters to serve food on (your guests will never know you didn’t lift a finger!). Located within Cove Tavern, Corker Cellars has a wide range of wines, and the team are always happy to help you select the perfect drop. Whether you’re celebrating with a bottle of bubbles or sipping rosé with the girls, you’ll find it at Corker Cellars.
What to wear
The Gold Coast can have multiple seasons in one day- scorching sun, strong winds and temperature drops right after the sun goes down. As such, it’s important to dress with this in mind (whilst looking photo ready of course!). Bringing a sun hat from Soho Girl and a shawl or cover up from Calypso Swimwear is a must, especially if your picnic is in the middle of the day. However, we also recommend having a jacket on hand to keep you cosy at sunset. Harry’s Emporium and EEV fashion have a beautiful range of stylish pieces that will keep you warm as the day turns to night
Consider a day out on the water
We’re spoiled for choice with some of the best beaches and parks in the world to enjoy our picnics on… but, we have to mention taking your picnic out on the water because there’s nothing quite like it! Taking a boat out for the day and enjoying a long, picnic style lunch on deck really is THE ultimate picnic. If you don’t have a vessel, Sanctuary Cove has a number of boat rental and charter partners that can do all the hard work for you.
The extra touches
Simple, yet, special additions will take your picnic from a regular day out to a memorable occasion. Consider a few embroidered, coastal style cushions from Cabana store to keep your guests comfortable; or a Vino Fresco Wine Bucket from Hamptons Style as a stylish alternative to an esky. Destino Home also has scented candles to bring a little bit of extra light, especially as the sun goes down.
Now you’re set to have the perfect sunset picnic, all that’s left is a picnic basket! Sanctuary Cove is embracing picnic season by giving away a complimentary basket when you spend $200 in one transaction at any of The Marine Village retailers.
