Sanctuary Cove Marina Achieves Highest Industry Accolade

12 February 2021

Sanctuary Cove Marina on Queensland’s Gold Coast has been awarded Platinum Gold Anchor accreditation by the Marina Industries Association (MIA).  This Global accreditation is the highest accolade that the industry awards and is reserved for marinas which offer their customers a comprehensive unique marina experience by providing tailored personalised service and an outstanding array of high-quality facilities and amenities.

Sanctuary Cove Marina is a 303-berth marina at Sanctuary Cove, a premier lifestyle destination on the northern Gold Coast that has recently undergone a $10 million redevelopment. The precinct offers recreational vessel berth holders premium marina facilities, access to the five-star InterContinental Resort, Golf and Country Club memberships and a vibrant dining and shopping hub. The award was presented to Sanctuary Cove Marina General Manager Steve Sammes and parent company Mulpha CEO, Greg Shaw by MIA Director John Hogan and CEO Suzanne Davies.

Suzanne Davies commented, “Sanctuary Cove Marina has been a 5 Gold Anchor Marina for many years, but the recent marina expansion and the integrated services offered through the hotel, resort and country club make it a worthy Platinum recipient and we are very proud to make the award”.

In explaining the detail of the program, John Hogan said “The Global Gold Anchor rating system is designed to provide boat owners and marina users with an easy reference system like hotel star ratings.  Marinas are independently assessed against over 100 separate criteria which cover management processes, the condition and maintenance of the marina, environmental practices and the ancillary facilities and services.  The assessment also involves an anonymous customer survey to further ensure it delivers on its promises.”

Mulpha CEO, Greg Shaw said, “This is a tremendous achievement for the marina team’s commitment to provide an unparalleled level of marine experience. Sanctuary Cove has been recognised as a boating and lifestyle destination for more than three decades and this award recognises Mulpha’s dedication and investment in delivering a world-class integrated resort precinct”.

Steve Sammes, General Manager of Sanctuary Cove Marina said, “It’s an absolute thrill to achieve Platinum recognition and a reflection of the commitment by Mulpha to continue to invest in the marina and Sanctuary Cove precinct to enable us to offer a truly exceptional marina experience. We are excited to continue to raise the bar for our visitors to Sanctuary Cove”.Sanctuary Cove Marina caters for a wide range of yachts including superyachts up to 70 metres.  It is also committed to the environment and is accredited as an International Clean Marina and has taken the Pledge to Eliminate the Use of Single Plastics.

About Global Gold Anchor

Gold Anchor is an international accreditation which requires a rigorous assessment of a marina’s services, procedures and facilities.  It involved independent audits of over 100 criteria across all areas of the business including service, facilities and infrastructure and includes a survey of customers.  The accreditation aims to inform consumers as to the level of services and facilities at marinas and to provide marinas with a set of benchmarks to maintain and a pathway for continual improvement.

The international program has accredited over 200 marinas across 27 countries and is a joint venture initiative between the Marina Industries Association (MIA) and The Yacht Harbours Association (TYHA).  TYHA delivers the Program in the United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean.  The MIA delivers the Program in Australia, Asia-Pacific and in the USA in association with the Marine Recreation Association (MRA). International Clean Marina

The International Clean Marina Program is an international, voluntary accreditation system for marinas, boatyards, and associated industry operators.  The goal of the Clean Marina Program is to reduce ‘non-point source pollution’ associated with boating/marina facilities, and to promote clean water, clean air and thriving marina industry businesses.

Elimination of Single Use Plastics Pledge

The MIA and its members share the view that our industry are the custodians of our waterways and that it is our collective responsibility to protect and improve our waterways.  By taking the Pledge, marinas are committing to removing single-use plastics from their business by 2025.  The initiatives that our marinas and associated businesses take in lowering their reliance on SUPs are shared amongst the industry community.
