Meet Jackie from Dragon Cove
Dine local at Dragon Cove and support your Sanctuary Cove community. Overlooking the spectacular Sanctuary Cove Marina, it’s fair to say Dragon Cove is not your run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant. The venue specialises in top notch Chinese food, such as crispy skinned Peking duck that is seasoned and roasted to perfection and carved at the table, freshly made dumplings bursting with flavour and the freshest seafood imaginable. We talk to business owner, Jackie, on how he came to be in the restaurant scene, his favourite Dragon Cove dishes and what community means to him.
What has been your journey to opening Dragon Cove?
6th year at SC, parents owned a few in sonny bank and others. Previous owner wanted to have a Chinese restaurant invited to set up.
How has the business changed over the years?
We change the menu every once in a while to keep things interesting, recipes that we know…..recipes from different parts of china. Same chefs since the start made it more consistent.
How would you best describe the dining experience at Dragon Cove?
Relaxed, family feel, shared meals……gathering together and sharing a meal. Taste many different dishes together, so experimental.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Different parts of china, look at competitors to see what they are doing.
What are you signature dishes at Dragon Cove?
Peking duck, whole or half…..to be shared with pancakes.
Has food always been a passion of yours?
I like to eat out and to have someone else to cook….last thing I want to do is go home and cook.
What is your favorite dish on your menu?
Wagyu beef hotpot……cook on the table by yourself, which is very nice…….very popular during winter, nice and warm, interactive.
Tell us more about what community means to you….
Locals are very supportive of the restaurants……few regulars that noticed we have been quiet, so they visit a lot more often to lift spirits after Corona virus. They are part of the family and we know the regular families that come in. Regulars since day 1 like to brag about being one of the first customers. Many of the retailers eat here as well…..security guys for take away.
